New Year - New blog
I should admit right away that the start of this blog is part of my 2017 New Year’s resolution. At the beginning of every year I end up making a list of about ten things that I want to accomplish as part of my New Year’s resolution. My goals for a new and improved me. And every year I usually do well with one of those ten goals. While I always seem to set myself up for failure with my ambition, I must give myself credit for making progress. With each year I am growing and learning and, slowly but surely, becoming more of the person I aspire to be. With that being said, this blog is number one on the 2017 "to do" list. Ideally, if I can accomplish consistency with my blogging, then some of my other goals for the upcoming year will be achieved in the process.
So why blog? I know, I know. Everyone and their mom thinks their lives are interesting enough that they can make a living blogging about themselves. Well first off, I'm not trying to make "blogger" my career title. My hope is that blogging can serve as a tool in realizing my actual professional and personal pursuits. If by sharing my journey online, I can then help others on their journey, that would be the icing on the cake. I would love to be able to inspire, to share my knowledge and, most importantly, provide support.
Writing is definitely not a strength of mine, but I do enjoy writing. I am one of those people who likes to journal. I have been journaling off and on since I was a kid. I have a box in my closet full of old journals that I can't seem to part with (a topic for future discussion). There have been times in my life when journaling has been therapeutic for me. Journaling lets you take all those thoughts rattling around in your head and put them out there in front of you so you can really organize and make sense of them. It helps you sort the garbage from the important stuff. The irrational from the inspirational. Helps you determine your goals, make plans, acknowledge your obstacles and then track your progress. It holds you accountable. Journaling is a form of personal expression and a healthy habit that can promote mental well-being.
Blogging is essentially a modern-day version of journaling. I've been contemplating giving this blogging thing a try for quite a few years now. At first, simply for my own use to slow down my growing pile of notebooks and limit my use of paper. Over the last several years, my interest in blogging has become more inspired by my want to put myself out there and to be heard. Since the birth of my son, my husband and I have been working hard to live more deliberate lives. In our efforts to make our health and happiness the priority, we often feel like we are fighting an uphill battle. We often feel at odds with the rest of our society and at times even unsupported by those around us. This blog, in part, is an attempt to document this pursuit for a healthy, happy life. Hopefully my posts can initiate some constructive conversations that both the readers and I can benefit from.
Of course, to a certain extent the goal of this blog is to promote myself and my new career venture. As you all probably noticed, it is connected to the website for my aspiring interior design and event planning business. I would like to use this space on the web to share my design work as well. Hopefully some will find design inspiration here. Maybe some will even decide they would like to collaborate with me.
In future posts we will talk about topics such as interiors, home, family, children, parenthood, weddings, marriage, parties, food, life. The common themes you will find throughout will consistently be the quest to achieve health (mental, physical and emotional) and the quest to live kindly on this planet.
I hope you are all feeling excited and optimistic for the upcoming year. I am looking forward to making new connections and friendships here. Wishing you all health and happiness in 2017. Cheers to the best year yet!
